Reminiscences about accelerators: Brookhaven lecture, 1980.

This lecture, one of the ongoing series of Brookhaven Lectures, begins with a popular summary of accelerator history from Wideröe (1928) through Cockcroft and Walton, Van de Graaff and his followers, Lawrence and his team, and the contributions to synchrotron development at General Electric and Brookhaven. Attention is given to the race to a billion volts between the Brookhaven Cosmotron and the University of California Bevatron,to the Brookhaven Alternating-Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) - CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) collaboration, and to more recent Brookhaven history.
